repetir ( rre-peh-teer' )

verb ( to repeat )

Francobollo is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

How to post a picture

1. Repítelo de nuevo, que no te escuché la primera vez.

Repeat that again. I didn't hear you the first time.

2. Ahora que estoy saliendo con Juan Carlos, no quiero que se repita la misma historia que con Luis.

Now that I'm going out with Juan Carlos, I don't want history to repeat itself as it did with Luis.

Nice. These are not cookies, but churros (little fried Spanish donuts). And, that probably means that that is chocolate in the cup, not coffee. I like them mixed together. - JoyceM, Nov 28, 2012
I don's see churros, just piernas, and I would really like to hear the rest of the story about Juan Carlos! Thank you everyone for a very educational and entertaining daily. :-) - 0095ca4c, Nov 28, 2012

Thanks Franco , is "todos los días " more usual , or only in this instance ? - ray76, Nov 28, 2012
@ JoyceM you are correct about the chocolate , but I thought the image was so good and tasty that a little poetic license was i order . - ray76, Nov 28, 2012
cada día is not grammatically incorrect... but it translates better at each day. For every day, we use todos los días - francobollo, Nov 28, 2012

Es típico de los ancianos que repiten repetir la misma historia una y otra vez.

It is typical for elderly people to repeat the same story over and over again.

No puedo oír tan bien como antes. Por eso, tengo que usar las palabras "repita, por favor" mucho más de lo que me gustaría usarlas.

I can't hear as well as in the past. For that reason, I have to use the words "repeat, please" much more than I would like to use them.

Hay algunas palabras en español que solo he oído una vez y las recuerdo. Pero hay otras que necesito repetir muchas veces para que se me graben.

There are some Spanish words that I have only heard once and I remember them. But there are others that I need to repeat alot before they stick in my mind.
