Please no using the dictionary and native speakers please give the Spanish learners a chance to answer before you answer. Thanks.

You are working in your yard and you have the following tools. A shovel, a hoe, a rake, a leaf rake and a trowel.

What are these items called in Spanish. PS: Most are pretty simple, others not so simple.

Is a leave rake one you forget so it goes rusty after the rain out in the garden? Perhaps you mean a leaf rake. - geofc, Nov 26, 2012
Ooooops. Typo. Sorry. - gringojrf, Nov 26, 2012
Don't worry. We (native speakers) won't answer to games or quizzes related to spanish words of course! - Hokuten, Nov 28, 2012

My husband, who is from Mexico, taught me that a leaf rake is "una araña" and the other smaller rake is "un dielgo". I have never been able to find either word in any dictionary however. I suppose it is a regional thing. ( I'm not sure if "dielgo" is the correct spelling but thats my guess!) aranadielgo

Okay here it is. A leaf rake is called "la araña - spider" Which to me makes sense as it looks like a spider with a lot of legs.

I thought it was a very colorful name for it.

PS: This may be a local or regional thing.

Yes, "araña" is a sort of 'informal' name. - -cae-, Nov 28, 2012

Okay the common answers are in. There are other words that can be used for trowel and leaf rake. The word I am looking for for leaf rake is not in any dictionary that I have found but here in Baja it is commonly used and is very descriptive. In fact that word is why I issued this challenge.

So I am still looking for another word for leaf rake.

I have no yard and I'm hopeless without a dictionary, since I seldom use these words. - katydew, Nov 27, 2012

I have no idea what a portcullis is. You use a rastrillo to shave. - gringojrf, Nov 26, 2012
