Spanish clarification for distinctive English verbs

Spanish clarification for distinctive English verbs

In English, "to humble" and "to humiliate" have distinct but subtle differences. However, I could not find a Spanish related verb that signifies "to humble," only an adjective (humilde). My question is:

Is "to humble" the same as "to humiliate" in Spanish?

The meaning I am looking for in the verb is "the idea of looking down or browbeating" oneself.

If the meaning is the same, could I take "humilliar" and make it reflexive?

To browbeat can be translated as humillar, vejar, denigrar, doblegar, someter, menospreciar.

To make someone humble... Dar una lección de humildad.
