When would I use past tense and when would I use imperfect tense? Any help is appreciated, but I would prefer specific answers and examples to help me understand the differences. Thank you so much!

Past is done and dusted. Imperfect was being done and may or may not have finished yet, we don't know the present status.

Past." I made 13 picture frames for my wife in the last 3 weeks." - " Durante las últimas 3 semanas, hice 13 marcos para mi esposa."

Imperfect. "Up to yesterday I was still making picture frames for my wife." - "Hasta ayer estaba todavía haciendo marcos para mi señora."
