Fue (It was), Fui either means I went or I was. - francobollo, Nov 14, 2012

You will only hear of the death of that person once, since the person can't die any more times.

Both of you are changing the meaning a little bit. He's talking about his feelings and you are referring to the event

I see your point, but that phrase does leave room for interpretation.

If, on the ther hand, he had said: "I was very saddened by the death...", where the fact of learning about the event is not even taken into account, then I would totally agree with you.

"I respectfully disagree" - Tony Stark. :)) - DualG, Nov 14, 2012
My point exactly. Perhaps the person does not want to personalize his take on the other person's loss. I think we're before a case of transcreation. - francobollo, Nov 15, 2012
If you did read the English version, he is saying "I was". So he IS personalizing. Both of you are just too proud to accept a correction from a newbie. - DualG, Nov 15, 2012
Dual, you know what? I did not even read the English carefully. I was so focused on the Spanish that simply overlooked the source. Not too proud to say you are right. Sorry for the confusion. - francobollo, Nov 15, 2012
No problem. I guess my comment was a little out of pride too. Thanks. - DualG, Nov 15, 2012

It sounds more personal.

- DualG, Nov 14, 2012
