"Comunicar" is more like a synonym of "informar". "Comunicarse" is more like having a chat.

Ella les quiere comunicar un anuncio. She wants to communicate an announcement

¿Usted pudo comunicarse con su tío? Were you able to communicate with your uncle?

I don't really know how to explain it, so I wrote this examples. I hope it's help

Easy tip:

Go to the top of the page. Click on translator. Write in "comunicar." See the translation. Scroll down until you see "comunicarse." This will give you the definitions and differences.

See lesson 2.5 on Reflexive Verbs, which have the ending -se.

Hope this helps.

comunicar simply means to comunicate comunicarse can mean a couple different things. "me comunico" can mean i communicate with myself. you can use any conjugation for that example, it just means my/your/him/her/our self "se comunica" can also mean "they communicate with each other" "se comunica la idea" ("la idea" is just an example, you could use anything in place of it.) can also mean a variety of different things. -"people/they/you communicate the idea" -"one communicates the idea" -"the idea is communicated" (passive voice, this way is preferably not used)

"comunicate BY phone". Yes "por" often translates to "for" but at least as often to "by" or even "by means of". - geofc, Nov 11, 2012
Oops! should be "communicate". Sorry about that. - geofc, Nov 11, 2012
