While I rested, the babysitter took the children to the zoo.

Si el conductor hubiera descansado, este accidente de trabajo ho había sucedido.

If the driver had been able to have a rest, this accident at work would not have happened.

…it wouldn’t have happened, but it did….Thus, imperfect subjunctive. I might have said, “…….no hubiera sucedido.” Thanks, Worth the vote - viejito, Nov 8, 2012
