I want to say the food in our school is expensive.
so should I say La comida están caros en nuestra escuela?

If you talk to me about "las comidas" I'd understand it as "the meals", not quite as "the food".

It is singular in number and femenine in gender:
La comida está cara en nuestra escuela.
