mi ( mee' )

adjective ( my )

Francobollo is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

How to post a picture

1. Mis papás vinieron conmigo para recoger mi carro nuevo.

My parents came with me to pick up my new car.

2. No quiero llevar mi pasaporte porque tengo miedo que se me pierda.

I don't want to bring my passport because I am afraid I will lose it.

I hadn't thought ofhim in ages! Mu secret is out! :)) - Noetol, Nov 2, 2012
I have no clue what this means. In any case, I'd say: Llévese a mi esposa, por favor. - francobollo, Nov 2, 2012
No, but I'm sure my father would have...jeje - rac1, Nov 2, 2012
I'll let it out of the bag...Henny Youngman, famous for one- liners! :)) - Noetol, Nov 2, 2012
Now take my wife . please , anyone! " Jack Benny " Master of the straight faced one liners. - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
Franco, it has to do with timing, the pause between wife and please. In conversation, "take my wife..." normally means that person is going to talk about a certain aspect about them. I.e. - "Take my brother, he's got a mean right hook when he boxes." - katydew, Nov 2, 2012
Or maybe you are just tongue in cheek right now so not to reveal your age... ha. But others might want the explanation. - katydew, Nov 2, 2012
Thanks katy, I had no idea either. - annierats, Nov 2, 2012

Cuando mi amiga , dice a me , "eres mi novio" ,

me siento excitado y mucho emocionado y muy feliz,

porque "soy un chico muchacho grande ahora".

When my friend says to me, "you are my boyfriend",

I get excited and very happy,

because" I am a big boy now".

How about the old fashioned camera rac1. - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
Franco , how can i translate the dialogue " you are my boyfriend" not , " I am her boyfriend" - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
You need quotation marks since you're citing her. It's not report speech. So, it would be: Cuando mi amiga me dice: "Eres mi novio" me siento exaltado y muy feliz. Porque ya soy grande. - francobollo, Nov 2, 2012
Great thank you I knew I had missed something , and the end , can i say again "soy un chico grande ahora" . ? - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
This is the little boy talking here not me telling the story. - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
How is that now Franco ? Sorry about that . I am not questioning you just trying very hard to understand why I am so wrong. - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
chico and grande are opposites (remember chico means little also). Hence my creative usage. But if you insist, then you can say.... soy un muchacho grande ahora. - francobollo, Nov 2, 2012
Also, excitado means sexually aroused, not excited. You need emocionado or exaltado. - francobollo, Nov 2, 2012
Well there is one for the book , I just wrote to a girl and said "I am excited about meeting you , thanks Franco , now I know , I did not know that chico meant small , so that make sense to me now , thanks mate you are a legend. - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
How is it now ? - ray76, Nov 2, 2012
Wow, Ray!! This post has been very useful !! I learned a lot from the comments. ;) Thanks , Franco for great explanations. :) - iana01, Nov 2, 2012
Me too Iana , we are lucky to have a guy like Franco who explains every thing do clearly . i leasn more from these exchanges than from books, i just wish i could speak with someone now. - ray76, Nov 2, 2012

Mi reino por un caballo.

Así reza la frase tan conocida que se funda en la muerte del rey inglés Ricardo III, a la temprana edad de 32 años, derrotado en la batalla de Bosworth, el 22 de Agosto de 1485, e inmortalizada por el célebre Shakespeare.

A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse!

Alternately pathetic and arrogant, the hunchbacked villain-king Richard III is about to meet his doom at the hands of the future Henry VII. Richard's most memorable line is actually supposed to sound halfway valiant—he refuses to forsake the fray although his horse has bit the dust. One of Shakespeare's best known lines, this quotation is sometimes now repeated ironically when someone is is need of some unimportant item.

Hace mucho tiempo, trabajé en un ancianato hogar de reposa y una anciana me dijo, "mi primer marido era actor y me segundo esposo era el presidente de los Estados Unidos.
