Ser or Estar with this event?

Ser or Estar with this event?

The exam is in Classroom 5

I know we use Estar for location but Ser for events, so is it:

El examen esta en Aula 5

or

El examen es en Aula 5

Thanks.

Great question!

The event, "the exam," es en el Aula 5.

The actual piece of paper called "exam" está en el Aula 5.

Since I can infer you are referring to where the exam (event) is taking place, then I would use ser.

  1. El examen está en el aula 5. That means literally that there's a paper with a test.
  2. El examen es en el aula 5. That means that everyone has to go and resolve a test.

Thank you maestroantonio! I note also that I forgot 'el' before 'aula' and you have all included it! ;-) - pml222, Nov 1, 2012
