Si digo: I was there for "a half an hour".
¿Cómo se traduce esta frase al Español?
¿Debería usar un articulo así? Estuve allí por una media hora.
¿Sin articulo? Estuve allí por media hora.
¿Algo diferente?

Yo diría que gramaticamente se pueden usar las dos. La primera yo la usaría para lenguaje hablado y cuando estuviste allí aproximadamente media hora. La segunda esta perfecto. También puedes decir "Estuve allí media hora", sin ninguna preposición y también es válido.
I'd say that grammatically speaking, you can use both. The first one, I'd use it for spoken language and refers to when you were there around half an hour. The second sentence is perfect. Also, you can do away with the preposition, and the sentence is also valid "Estuve allí media hora".
