Diversión con expresiones

The idea is to present an English expression followed by a literal Spanish translation.

Or vice-versa.

Then explain what it means.

Spanish speakers please give us an equivalent Spanish expression in the comments box.

La idea es presentar una expresión Inglés seguido de una traducción literal españoles. Luego explique lo que significa.

Hablantes de español por favor dénos una expresión española equivalente.

"Fine words butter no parsnips" (. to butter = untar de mantequilla )

Las palabras buenas mantequilla no chirivías.

Talking about doing something does not get it done

or

Actions speak louder than words.

Daft as a brush.

Estupido como un cepillo.

Meaning: He is as daft as a brush" = "He is very stupid".

Where there is muck, there is money.

Donde hay mierda hay plata.

Significa que sea posible hacerte rico si no te preocupes de la suciedad y las porquerias.

We had better bury the battle-axe now, in time for Christmas.

Ya tenemos que enterrar el hacha de guerra , antes de la fiesta de Navidad.

Significa que hacer los paces.

hacerse el sueco

No se nota cuando me hago la sueca porque soy sueca todo el tiempo.

It means: to pretend to be a swede. This is because to be Swedish is obviously more attractive to people of other nationalities.. Claro.

En sueco decimos: Att göra sig dummare en man är.

I feel under the weather.

Me siento bajo el tiempo.

Estoy un poco deprimada y puede ser que tengo la gripe tambíen, de todos modos, el mundo me cae gordo. Creo que me falta la serotonina.

Bats in the belfry - palos en campanario

Someone with bats in the belfry is crazy or eccentric.

Alguien con murciélagos en el campanario es de locos o excéntricos.

No matter what, we're just going to have to make do this month.

Sea como sea, tendremos que arreglárnoslas este mes.
