Echar perlas a los cerdos is a very common Spanish phrase. Can you guess what it means and share it with the forum?

Here's an example of usage:

No es que esperes nada a cambio, pero eso de echarle perlas a los cerdos, no va conmigo.

No den lo que es santo a los perros, ni echen sus perlas a los cerdos, pues podrían pisotearlas y después se volverían contra ustedes para destrozarlos.

Los cerdos no buscan perlas ni los perros lo que es santo.

"pearls before swine" is how it's often rendered in English (UK). It's similar in meaning to the Oscar Wilde quote "a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing .

I should have said, I think the "pearls" here reference the phrase "pearls of wisdom" - lagartijaverde, Oct 22, 2012

to throw pearls to pigs.

Guess: In English, is that like throwing information to the wind, or wisdom out the door?

It also has a biblical meaning.

Do not persist in offering what is sacred or of value to those who have no appreciation for it, because your gift will not only be despised, your generous efforts could also be rejected and even openly attacked.

No persista en la oferta de lo que es sagrado o de gran valor para aquellos que no tienen aprecio por ella, debido a que su regalo no sólo será despreciado, sus generosos esfuerzos también podrían ser rechazados e incluso atacados abiertamente.

Para dar un elogio falso, con la esperanza de obtener una ventaja.
