The bitter end. La sal.
I was speaking with my friend about past relationships! She kept saying:
"Es la sal."
He is the salt? What the heck?
Then I realized she probably meant "He is bitter." Is it common to refer to someone that is bitter as "the salt'?

Here is what the SD dictionary says:
(Latinoamérica) (mala suerte) misfortune; piece of bad luck sal
It's amazing what's in there.
I have never heard that before. I am curious to hear what others have to say.
