According to a study done at Monash University’s Accident Research Center in 2007, “An Investigation into the Relationship between Vehicle Colour and Crash Risk,” white cars are less likely to be involved in vehicular accidents than non-white cars.
Black cars tend to be at a much higher risk. In the daylight, Black cars were 12% more likely to be in an accident than white cars. This number significantly increased to 47% during dusk and dawn.
Other colors that tended to have a higher rate in the daylight included gray (11%), silver (10%), and red and blue cars (7%).
The only other color that had a higher percentage during dusk and dawn was silver by 15%, an increase of 5% from daylight.
Surprisingly, only red (10%) and silver (8%) were more likely to be involved in an accident than white cars according to the study.
