Tomorrow, 12th October, is "Columbus Day". Do you celebrate it in your countries?

In Spain it is celebrated the so-called “Hispanity Day”, although it is also known as “National Feast”: the Spaniards usually know it as the day of the Parade, because on this date takes place a big army parade in the country’s capital. In the city of Saragossa they also celebrate the patron Virgin of the city, the Virgin of El Pilar.

Why are they all powdered up or painted silver? I can't really tell which it is. ;-P - DJ_Huero, Oct 11, 2012
I think you didn't get enough sleep, DJ! - rac1, Oct 11, 2012

Colón ni descubrió ni "encontró" nada. Los nativos nunca estuvieron perdidos.... - joshhh317, Nov 21, 2012

I do not celebrate Columbus Day. It's been so long since 1492 that Columbus Day has just become another bank holiday. Sorry for the sarcasm!

No pasa nada. Un poco de sarcasmo siempre es bueno. - SilviaC, Oct 11, 2012
The history books need to change. - rac1, Oct 11, 2012
I think they have Rac, conquistadores are nowadays portraid worse than my poor malrepresented peaceful traders, the Vikings. - annierats, Oct 11, 2012

- annierats, Oct 11, 2012

I do not celebrate Columbus Day.

I'm of the group that feels that Columbus Day is not a day to celebrate. This part of history should be taught in schools as a time of cruel treatment toward the indigenous people, including acts of genocide against Native Americans. The truth is often not pretty, but required for a healthy society.

Very true...I agree with you 200%. Thanks for saying this. - rac1, Oct 11, 2012
The only celebration I have ever seen was the man's inhumanity to man, also. - HowardO, Oct 11, 2012
- SilviaC, Oct 11, 2012
