In watching the video "El Ausente" on LomasTV there is the following sentence: " pérese, compadre, quiero hablar con usted." Which is translated as "Hold on, pal, I want to talk to you. My question is - I can't determine what word "pérese" is supposed to be. I would appreciate any help.

Gracias por ayudarme,

Saludos,

Jim

It's from the verb esperar to wait but the 'e' often gets dropped in speech especially when it's in the command form.

It's low level (uneducated) Spanish for Espérese (You wait!)
