If you appreciate archaeology, this seems to be a pretty significant discovery. - rheit, Oct 4, 2012

Another great discovery in Guatemala was the one that put to rest a long-held myth that the ancient Mayans predicted a 2012 apocalypse (unfortunately, a small percentage of the world’s population still believe this).

This is quite interesting stuff!

I live about five hours southeast of Petén, Guatemala, where this and so many other discoveries have been made in recent times.

I live with the Mayan people, in the Western Highlands, who are never surprised when something like this comes up. They just say, "Of course...you go digging around and, of course, you'll find the history of a place." I, on the other hand, get very excited!

Really, this made me laugh out loud. It's true, we see it differently than the natives do. - rheit, Oct 4, 2012
Does disturbing the burial sites bother any of the Mayan people? The one time I traveled, I went to Hawaii. It seemed to bother the Hawaiians to have their burial sites disturbed. Of course, it was more about building roads rather than discovering - rheit, Oct 4, 2012
