Francobollo is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Se me olvidó meter la billetera en mi cartera y ahora no tengo efectivo.

I forgot to put my wallet in my purse and now I don't have any cash.

2. Juanito, ¡no te metas eso en la boca que estaba en el piso sucio!

Juanito, don't put that in your mouth, it was on the dirty floor!

Me gusta depositar mi confianza en mi propia capacidad de

terminar un proyecto satisfactoriamente.

Donde meter mi dinero, es una cuestión diferente.

I like to put my trust in my own ability to complete

a project satisfactorily.

Where to put my money is a different matter.

Algunas personas meten la cabeza bajo tierra, como los avestruces.

Some people put their heads in the sand, like ostriches.

It’s their problem, so why interfere?

Me gusta usar la olla que cocina la comida más lentamente porque se puede meter toda la comida a la vez junta en la olla

I like to use a crock pot because all of the food is put into the crock pot together. (One puts all of the food into the pot together.)

Sorry about this hot mess, but I have no clue what a crock pot is in Spanish(la cosa que cocina la comida más lentemente). Are we allowed to use a dictionary? And I’m having a hard time getting past poner for putting something somewhere.

¡Gracias por corregir mis errores! Edit for corrections.

I used poner and then took it out of the sentence because I was thinking that it would say "one puts put into..." Poner - to put Meter - to put into. I'm confused. - island_fever, Oct 3, 2012
Good one, Island! - rac1, Oct 3, 2012
Although you specifically used "se puede" as a correction, my brain was still in "poner". My brain was seeing "poder" as "poner". I woke up early and all of a sudden, my brain kicked in. Thank you for your patience. - island_fever, Oct 4, 2012

No tiene ningún problema en meter la llave en la ignición, ¡una vez que recuerda que siempre los tengo con ella siempre y cuando se acuerde de llevarlas!

She has no problem getting the key into the ignition, as long as once she remembers to always have/take them with her!
