Francobollo is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
Guidelines:
Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.
Examples:
1. Cuando se casó, Pedro obtuvo la ciudadanía española porque su esposa es de Madrid.
When he got married, Pedro got Spanish citizenship because his wife is from Madrid.
2. El acento español es muy fuerte, a veces es muy difícil entenderlo.
The Spanish accent is very strong, sometimes it's very difficult to understand it.

¿Cómo es eso de que unos hablan español y otros castellano? ¿Dónde está la confusión?
El español es el idioma oficial de España y de los países hispanoparlantes (excepto algunos que atribuyen igual notoriedad a ciertas lenguas indígenas o a algunas regiones en España que claman una lengua oficial distinta al español como el catalán o el vasco).
El dialecto castellano proviene de Castilla y muchos expertos dicen que es el español mejor hablado de España y el que fue llevado con más prominencia a América durante la Colonia. Así que habrán quienes lo llamen castellano y otros español, ¡pero nos hacemos entender que es lo que cuenta!
No soy purista de la lengua, así que no me meto en esas profundidades por temor a ahogarme.
How come some say they speak Spanish and other say Castilian? Where’s the mix up?
Spanish is Spain’s official language and that of the Latin American countries (excluding Brazil-- and except some countries that also consider certain indigenous languages or some regions in Spain who claim a language other than Spanish as official, such as Catalonia or the Basque country).
The Castilian dialect comes from the region of Castilla in Spain. Many experts seem to agree this is the best Spanish spoken in Spain, and which was “imported” to America during the Spanish Colonization. So there are those who call it Castilian and those who call it Spanish. At the end of the day, we all manage to understand each other, which is really what matters.
I am no language expert, so I do not delve into these topics for fear of getting buried alive.
