Hi, I'm new.
Can someone help me learn Spanish? I can help with English if you like...but I really need a NATIVE speaker to teach me. For the past three years, I only had one native Spanish speaking teacher, but I dd not really learn because me and the rest of the non-Spanish speakers were mixed in with native speakers so she paid more attention to them then to us. After her, I havehad two other teachers and they learned it and one is still learning and the other is hardly understood by native speakers. See my dilemma? AYUDAR POR FAVOR! MUY CONFUDADO! D:

Hey Miya! Welcome to the forum!
You've come to the right place for advice. And, maybe this place will help you learn, too.
For Spanish language help, you need to find someone who is a NATIVE SPANISH SPEAKING PERSON to practice with.
In Spain they have these arrangements called 'intercambios.' They are language exchanges. You can do this anywhere you live.

You find someone who speaks the other language fluently, and speaks your language at the same level that you speak Spanish (beginner/intermediate or advanced).
Then, you get together once a week for lunch or a soda for an hour or two and try to communicate. You will bring a Spanish/English dictionary and maybe a magazine to facilitate discussion.
It will be rough going at first, but you will help each other with pronunciation and vocabulary. Eventually you will learn, gain confidence and you will make a friend in the process.
I see that you live in Houston. There are plenty of Spanish-speaking people in your town. If you go to the person in your school in charge of English as a Second Language, and present this idea to them they can connect you with a recent arrival from a Spanish speaking country. You may turn out to be that person's life line to the American culture.
Sorry, but your bi-lingual friends will be of no help to you in this process. This is because they will not be patient enough with you to practice at the level you need right now. You only learn a language word by word, phrase by phrase, grammar rule by grammar rule. You need someone that you can go slowly with at first. In exchange, you will need to be patient with them.
This site can help you a thousand other ways, and you should come back here often.
The flash cards can help you with vocabulary. The word of the day can help you practice sentences. The lessons are good to review, just in case your teachers are actually not the best (and we've all had them). But, to really be able to speak a language, you need to be able to practice with a native.
You can do this! Good luck!
Hi - try clicking on this link
You can hear Paralee talking anytime you feel like it - that may help a bit.
Another great source besides the great advice you are receiving from Joyce would be to join meetup.com. They have language learning groups all over the US who meet once a week or so for people of all ages. And it's free!

Hi and welcome. There is also another site called Nos Ayudamos where you can do chats. I'm also a big proponent of listening to Spanish music. Start with any kind of ballad because it will be slow enough for you to start catching words. Marc Anthony, Juanes. Tito Nieves, and the list goes on and on. You can find these artists on youtube. While this can be challenging, it can also be fun and it's something that will last you a lifetime. If you have a lot of native speakers in your class, then you're set. You can ask them "How do you say...?" and make it social rather than "homework".
