Hola, can anyone help me translate this sentence to english?

"Mi amigo me llamó desde Pakistán un día del verano pasada para pedirme que fuera a verlo".

I think it's the "que fuera" that's throwing me off...... any help appreciated.

Cheers.

The verb following pedir (to ask or request) takes the subjunctive... que fuera means "that I go/come" over to see him.

thank you for your response! i'm confused, which one is the subjunctive verb? - nublado, Sep 23, 2012
fuera is the subjunctive form of the verb "ir". - francobollo, Sep 23, 2012
fuera is also the subjunctive form of the verb "ser". It's one of the crazy Spanish language things. This is what may be throwing you off. - francobollo, Sep 23, 2012
Ohhh right. Thank you so much! Time to work on my subjunctive....thanks again. - nublado, Sep 24, 2012
