Como se dice en español 'I would exercise often to keep fit and to maintain my ideal weight'?

I'm doing an essay for homework but I got stuck on this phrase, because to do exercise is hacer ejercicio.

Thanks! :D

Solía hacer ejercicio con frecuencia para estar en forma y mantener mi peso ideal.

"Solía hacer" could be interpreted as "con frecuencia" so there is some redundancy here and while redundancy is nesessary many times in Spanish, in this case it isn´t. Also "en forma" could leave the reader asking "¿Forma de qué?"

For me, it sounds more natural to say "Solía hacer ejercicios para estar en buena forma y mantener mi peso ideal."

I totally disagree. Are you a native Spanish speaker? - francobollo, Sep 22, 2012

Haría ejercicio con más frecuencia para estar en buena forma y mantener mi peso ideal. To say what you would do surely needs to start off with the conditional?
