Negra Modelo

Negra Modelo

Not the most Earth-shattering question ever posted, but can someone explain why the beer Negra Modelo uses the feminine? I just assumed "modelo" was one of those words ending in "o" that were actually feminine. The translator lists it as both m/f, yet all examples show it in the masculine.

I know others must be laying awake at night pondering the same profound question!

Thank God someone asked and answered this question!!

Love the beer (la crema de la cerveza), never understood the grammar.

DR1960, my next one's raised to your honor (or honour if you're British).

Mariana is right. Una cerveza rubia o negra. Modelo is the brand, so it remains unchanged. Also, the word modelo does not change gender. You can say:

(Ella) es (una) modelo de Chanel muy famosa. Juan es modelo de pasarela para Hugo Boss.

As and adjective, modelo also remains invariable.

Ella es una estudiante modelo (never modela). Ellos son estudiantes modelo (never in the plural either). Think of it like fish in English, where it never changes to fishes in the plural.
