los pronombres posesivos, or possessive pronouns, are used to replace nouns that are accompanied by possessive adjectives (mi, tu, su, nuestro, vuestro, etc.). In Spanish they are the following:

el mío/ la mía

el tuyo/ la tuya

el suyo/ la suya

el nuestro/ la nuestra

el vuestro/ la vuestra

to make it plural, you simply add an 's' to the end.

So for example: mi abrigo es rojo--> el mío es rojo.

Or: tus chaquetas son negras --> las tuyas son negras (note that the possessive pronoun must match in gender and in number).

It's worth noting that using possessive pronouns tend to shift the focus from the subject itself (ie abrigo o chaqueta), to the person who owns it (ie yo o tú). It emphasizes possession/ownership.

Lastly, possessive pronouns may also be used to point out contrast. Ex: Mi casa es vieja, pero la tuya es nueva.
