-#3 "From my window, I could see that two men were socializing." This is a correct way to say it. However, I probably wouldn't say it this way. We tend to have a pretty small vocabulary in the U.S. Most people would just say, "From my window, I could see two guys were talking to each other."

-#4 "My feet really hurt after I accidentally fell on the ground." My high school students might say it just the way you did, but this would be more correct.

I have no idea why the font is so big! - rheit, Sep 12, 2012
I would not say "in the US we tend to have a ...." Perhaps you mean from a specific area of the country, where I grew up in New England we are replete with writiers & scholars that use the language to its depth buena suerte - Floridafisherman, Sep 12, 2012
I fixed your font size! This way it looks much better! - farallon7, Sep 12, 2012

Floridafishe - smack dab in the middle of Kansas:) We seem to produce a lot of doctors, professionals, engineers - not so many scholars, writers, or artists. Plus, I'm teaching in a small high school. - rheit, Sep 12, 2012
Not too many years ago we were excusing kids to work on the farm, actually still do, just not as often. Plus, we have a few kids that still take off (excused from school) to hunt during deer season. I love language. My students don't. - rheit, Sep 12, 2012

Numbers 1, 2, and 5 all sound good.

Number 3 needs works. It doesn't sound right. You could take out the 'were' to make it say: "From my window, I can see two men socializing." Or, you could change it to, "From my window, I could see two men who were socializing." The first sentence would be present tense, and the second sentence is past tense. So it depends which tense you want it to be in. However, you cannot use "can" (present tense) and "were" (past tense) in the same sentence like you wrote it. It just doesn't sound right.

Number 4 also doesn't sound quite right. I think it's grammatically correct, but no one would actually speak like that. It would sound more natural to say: "My feet hurt after I accidentally fell on the ground." I wouldn't add "so bad" in there.
