Compound Words / Palabras Compuestas
I majored in Spanish in college with very little Spanish instruction coming out of high school. One day, it hit me, compound words! (I may be slow, because I hadn't made this connection yet.) The word was "Nomeolvides". I hadn't progressed enough to see the word parts up until this point. However, I finally realized it was the flower Forget-Me-Nots. That lead to recognizing compound words such as "el parabrisas" (windshield), "el paraguas" (umbrella), and "el sacapuntas" (pencil sharpener). What other compound words are there that would be relevant to a Spanish learner? I'm looking for interesting words to add to my vocabulary knowledge and to share with students.
