¡Ay! Hay and Ahí
¡Ay!, Hay, and Ahí are homonyms, which are words pronounced the same as another but differing in meaning, whether spelled the same way or not.
¡Ay! is an exclamation or interjection, which is used to express surprise, pain, etc . Example: ¡Ay! ¡Me corté el dedo! --> Oh, I cut my finger!
Hay means there is/there are (it stems from the verb to have) Example: Hay cien dólares en la caja registradora. ---> There are $100 in the cash register.
Ahí is an adverb of place, which means there. El dinero está está ahí, cerca de la mesa. ---> The money is there, near the table.
