Song translations line by line

This is a very popular Spanish song I hear nearly everyday on the radio in Chile, Fuiste Tú.

Let's go one line at a time, translating the whole line into English from the Spanish lyrics.

Each person takes one line in sequence and translates it into English.

Then the next person takes the next line of the song and translates it into English until we get to the last word.

This is different from a listening exercise as you can see the words of the lyrics on the video to make it easier to translate and use your dictionary.

By the time we get to the last line, we'll all be able to sing along with the radio.

It will be fun to learn some new vocabulary from this tragic love song.

Line 3

Lo tuyo fue la intermitencia y la melancolía, lo mío fue aceptarlo todo porque te quería.

Yours was the intervals of anger and melancholy , mine was accepting it all because I loved you.

Lo tuyo fue la intermitencia y la melancolía, lo mío fue aceptarlo todo porque te quería.

Yours were the break-ups and the sadness, mine was the acceptance of everything, because I used to love you.

We don't get radio Chile, or indeed, any Spanish radio, over here, so I'm just guessing. - annierats, Sep 2, 2012
That makes sense. Sounds like you know your love songs none-the-less. Thanks for playing Annie. - katydew, Sep 2, 2012
Sorry, I didn't colick 'newest'so I've done another. Nice song! Although, it fails to sing in my computer, but the text comes up, that's something! - annierats, Sep 2, 2012
Annie, I hate that you cannot hear it! Oh, well. You're doing great on the lyrics. - katydew, Sep 2, 2012

Verte llegar fue luz, verte partir un blues.

To see you arrive was the light, to see you go , a blues, a sadness..

Line 1:

Fuiste tú, tenerte fue una foto tuya puesta en mi cartera,

It was you, There was your photo placed in my billfold.

Maybe, To have you was just a photo of yours placed in my wallet?

Line 5

Chorus: Fuiste tú, de más está decir que sobra decir tantas cosas.

It was you, needless to say that there are so many things to say.

(Anybody have any better ideas on this one?)

Un beso y verte hacer pequeño por la carretera

a kiss and to see you do little for the road and /or

a kiss and to see you become small by the highway (watching someone while you drive/ride away.)

It's a big hit here in Chicago from the album "Independiente" by Ricardo Arjona. - louise365, Sep 2, 2012
I'm not sure what year it came out but it seems to be a Goldie Oldie. - katydew, Sep 2, 2012
