Today write sentences with "make out"

Question

Hello everyone. I think phrasal verbs are some of the most difficult to many English learners because most of them do not have a literal translation. So I have decided to learn one or two phrasal verbs every day.

I know you can help me with that, but you also need to learn Spanish, so please write the sentence in English using the PV then try it in Spanish. Then I will correct your sentence (the Spanish sentence, of course); we will help each other out.

If you´re not sure about how to translate your sentence, just explain (in English) what your Pv means and I will help with your translation.

Today let's write sentences using the phrasal verb:

"Make out"

1.-Definition: pretend

Examples:

•I can not seem to make out the answer to this word problem.

•I can not seem to make out the small letters on that distant sign.

•Can you make out the reasoning behind that person’s actions?

2.-Definition: to write (a cheque)

Examples:

•When you make out the check, please be sure and put your phone number on it.

•Mom asked me to make out the grocery list since she was too busy.

•I will make out a check for you after you finish the job.

Well, the word morreándose is not very common, another common word is "besuqueándose", but it´s quite despective.(anyway, I think that´s the translation because "make out", in this context, is also despective) - luisssito, Sep 3, 2012

Correction: Cuando estaba en el colegio los estudiantes tenían un lugar para estacionar sus autos y besarse.

When I was in high school the students had a place to park their cars and "make out."

Since ¨make out¨is used as a slang in the context it would mean agasajar. In different Spanish speaking countries the term changes but at least in Mexico we´s say agasajar when we kiss and....make out. - El_Mexicalense, Sep 2, 2012

Well, according to the dictionary, in this context this is the definition "to kiss and touch in a sexual way, or to succeed in having sex with someone". - luisssito, Sep 3, 2012

Aha, very classic. Well I´ve suggested the translation for this PV should be "besuquearnos", but this word is quite despective. I´m not sure about the one in English, if it´s not despective, we might find another Spanish version more formal. - luisssito, Sep 3, 2012
