Bienvenido al foro abierto en SpanishDict.com. Hoy, mis compañeros de clase, vamos a aprender unos tiempos nuevos…y usarlos en frases.

Estos nuevos tiempos expresan acciones que tuvieron lugar en un tiempo indeterminado en el pasado.

Ya sabemos que "Haber" es un verbo auxiliar, una como tal nunca puede estar solo.

Welcome to the open forum at SpanishDict.com. Today, my classmates, we are going to learn some new tenses…and use them in sentences.

These new tenses express actions that took place at an undetermined time in the past.

We already know that 'Haber' is an auxiliary verb, an as such can never stand alone.

Compund or perfect tenses are composed of two parts:

the auxiliary (haber-to have) + (a past participle )

They are called “perfect” because the action is completed.

The function of the auxiliary verb “haber” is to tell “when”.

  1. Present Perfect Tense = have/has + Past Participle

(haber) + (past participle-Ir) = (….have/has paid)

he + Past Participle = (I have……)

has + PP = (you [tú] have …)

ha + PP = (he, she, it – has ….)...( you (Ud.) have….)

hemos + PP = (we have….)

haéis + PP = (you [vos] have ….)

han + PP = (they, you [Uds.] have ….)

  1. Past Perfect Tense = had + Past Participle

(haber) + (past participle - Pagar) = (….had paid)

había + Past Participle = (I had….)

habías + PP = (you [tú] )had….)

había + PP = (he, she, it had ….)...( you (Ud.) had….)

habíamos + PP = (we had….)

habíais + PP = (you [vos]) had….)

habían + PP = (they, you [Uds.] had….)

3 A. Future Perfect Tense = will/shall + Past Participle

(Haber) + (past participle - pagar) = (…..will/shall have paid)

3.B {Future Perfect Tense can also be used to express conjecture }

As conjecture it means = (has probability /must have} + (past participle - pagar) =

(…..has probably/must have gone)

habré + Past Participle =(I will/shall have….) or (I probably/must have….)

habrás + PP = (you [tú] )will/shall have…..) or (you probably/must have…..)

habrá + PP = (he, she, it will/shall have….) or (he,she,it probably has/must have…)

(you (Ud.) will/shall have ….) or (you (Ud..) probably/must have….)

habremos + PP = (we will/shall have….) or (we probably/must have….)

habréis + PP = (you [vos])will/shall have…) or (you probably/must have….)

habrán + PP = (they, you [Uds.] will/shall have…) or (probably/must have….)

4 A. Conditional Perfect Tense = (would have) + (past participle)

(Haber) + (past participle – pagar) = (…..would have paid)

4 B. {Conditional Perfect Tense can also be used to express conjecture}

As conjecture it means = (had probably) + (past participle - pagar) =

(…..had probably paid)

Habría + Past Participle = (I would have….) or ( I had probably….)

Habrías + PP = (you [tú]would have….) or (you[tu] had probably…..)

Habría + PP = (he, she, it would have….) or (he,she,it had probably…..)

(you (Ud.) would have …..) or (you (Ud.) had probably…..)

habríamos + PP = (we would have…..) or ( we had probably…..)

habríais + PP = (you [vos])would have…) or (you (tu) had probably….)

habrían + PP = (they, you [Uds.] would have…) or (they, you,(Uds.) had probably….)

*

The Subjunctive Moods.

*

5 . Present Perfect Subjunctive-

{(that) I, you{tú}, he, she, you, we, they (may have} + (past participle)

(que) - haya, hayas, haya, hayamos, hayáis, hayan

  1. Plueperfect (imperfect) Subjunctive –

{(that) I, you{tú}, he, she, you, we, they (might have} + (past participle)

“ to pay - Pagar” (past Participle = paid)

I will give you a verb. You will have to select a “compound tense” from those that use "haber", and use it in a sentence with the past participle of the verb that will be chosen today.

Todays verb will be: (Pagar – to pay ) Use it in a “compound tense with “Haber ”

( Paid )

“ Pagar – to pay ” ( paid )

Al final de septiembre, habré pagado todo mi préstamo escolar.

At the end of September, I will have paid all of my school loan.

Yesterday they told him that they had already paid him enough. And that he would have to reimburse them.

Ayer le dijeron a él que ya le habían pagado a él lo suficiente. Y él tendría que pagarles reembolsárselo.

I am not sure whether I should use: "él tendría que pagarles" or " él habría pagado". Thanks for your help, Viejito. Muchas gracias - iana01, Sep 1, 2012
Just an idea/opinion. I might have said, “Yesterday they told him that they had paid him enough. And that he would have to reimburse them.” Or – have to pay them the loan” - viejito, Sep 1, 2012
Ayer le dijeron a él que ya le habían pagado a él lo suficiente. Y él tendría que reembolsárselo…o.. Él tendría pagarles el préstamo. …Worth a vote ☺ - viejito, Sep 1, 2012
Thank you very much, Viejito. For English and Spanish corrections. Gracias. :) - iana01, Sep 2, 2012

I had already paid him when you asked me for the money.

Ya le había pagado cuando me pediste el dinero.

I would have paid him twice as much if he had even done half the work.

Yo le habría pagado a él doble, aun dos veces más si incluso si él hubiera había hecho la mitad del trabajo.

Nice sentence, Hum, well, - nothing more then an idea/opinion. I might have said, “Yo le habría pagado a él lo doble, aun si él hubiera hecho la mitad del trabajo.” Worth a vote, Thanks, ☺ - viejito, Sep 2, 2012

I would love to do everything for you and if necessary, perhaps I would pay it my life, my darling.

Me encantaría hacer todo por ti y si es preciso, quizás yo pagara mi vida a ello, cariño mío.

I like your sentence. Just an opinion/idea shared with you. “Me encantaría hacer todo lo possibe para tí, y si fuera necessario… Quizás yo lo pagaría con la vida, cariño mío - viejito, Sep 1, 2012

I wish that I had paid for the tickets last week.

Deseo que yo hubiera pagado los boletos la semana pasada.

Viejito. I´d rather change that part where you meant to say: ...actions that took place at no specified time in the past. ...¨acciones que tuvieron lugar en ningún momento especificado en el pasado¨ to:....acciones que tomaron lugar en un tiempo indeterminado en el pasado.

Hola, El Mexicalense…¿Y cómo te ha ido?.... Gracias por la idea. Me gusta la expressión “en un tiempo indeterminado en el pasdo” …suena mejor. Pero, “tuvieron lugar”… queda…a lo menos que yo haya tenido la oportunidad de comprobarlo. ☺ - viejito, Sep 2, 2012
