If I wanted to say "I dont want to be late" which verb would I use to say "to be"? Ser or estar, and why? Thanks!

jeezzle gave the correct answer of which one to use but didn't explain fully the reason why.

"To be late" can be translated as,

Retrasarse or Lllegar tarde

El tren se retrasó - The train was late

Llegar tarde - To be late

No quiero llegar tarde - I don't want to be late

Notice how neither of these construction use Ser or Estar.

Si voy atrasado....

If I'm late....

I wonder if you could say "No quiero ir atrasado".
