I like it when I get stumped. The answer may be right in front of me but I am stumped. In this song by Vicente Fernandez. Why is it "Lastima que seas ajena, and not lastima que estes ajena? It is because he is refering to an emotional state and not a location? Anyone? Thanks in advance.

And I learned the word ajena. - katydew, Aug 30, 2012
Si tratas de comunicarte más con hispanohablantes en conversaciones reales y leer libros en el español, vas a tener más oportunidades de estar "stumped." Adelante. - somosigualestodos, Aug 30, 2012
muchísimas más. Si en realidad te gusta. - somosigualestodos, Aug 30, 2012
I suffer from a human condition...I'm not perfect. Are you somosiguales? - 002262dd, Aug 30, 2012

"Lastima que seas ajena"

This could be ...

  • 1) She belongs to another

  • 2) She has become foreign to him

Ajeno(a)

  1. adj. Perteneciente a otra persona.

  2. adj. De otra clase o condición.

  3. adj. Distante, lejano, libre de algo. Ajeno de cuidados

  4. adj. Impropio, extraño, no correspondiente. Ajeno a su voluntad

  5. adj. Que no tiene conocimiento de algo, o no está prevenido de lo que ha de suceder.

Is 'ser ajena' a phrase that always goes together then?

No. Ajeno is just an adjective. You can say "Me siento ajeno" I feel like an outsider. - francobollo, Aug 30, 2012
Thanks. That is helpful. It's a new one for me so I need to keep it and use it. - katydew, Aug 31, 2012
