Today's "Preterit or Imperfect" "Recibir"

As you already know, English has 7 tenses and Spanish has 13.

Today we will examine the preterite and imperfect Spanish tenses.

I will select the verb that we will use.

I will tell you its verb meaning…in general.

I will also give you the verbs conjugations.

You will need to select one of the conjugations and use it in a sentence.

Example : “ Recibir”- ‘to receive’ Recibí una nota buena ( I received a good grade)

Como ya lo sabes, el inglés tiene 7 tiempos y español tiene 13.

Hoy examinaremos los tiempos pretérito e imperfecto de español.

Seleccionaré el verbo que utilizaremos.

Les diré la significación del verbo…por lo general.

También les daré las conjugaciones del verbo.

Tendrán que seleccionar una de las conjugaciones y utilizarla en una frase.

En mi vida, recibía muchos regalos de Dios.

In my life, I received many gifts from God.

In English…many times when we say “I received (gifts)” the conclusion is Preterit…”Recibí”. The imperfect denotes “use to/would”…as a routine. English can us verbs ending in “ed” to cover the broader spectrum of Preterit and Imperfect”. So,your sentence - viejito, Aug 30, 2012

is correct. However, You said “in my life” which is the same as “during my life”. (this is for English learners). To side step any ambiguity, I might have said, “ he recibido”. Just a thought. ☺ worth the vote. - viejito, Aug 30, 2012

A “long lost friend “ is “an already forgotten old friend from long ago” So, I might have worded it : “Recibí ayer una llamada de un viejo amigo ya olvidado hace mucho tiempo. Woth the vote ☺ - viejito, Aug 30, 2012

Yesterday they got twenty thousand pesos for a day's work, but in Peru they were receiving the equivalent to thirty.
