My New Gained Vocabulary

Question

Just a moment...I found this word quite confusing while we're having a class discussion with our professor in our English subject and so after the class I immediately look for the meaning of it. The word is REMORSE - is an emotional expression of personal regret felt by a person after he or she has committed an act which they deem to be shameful, hurtful, or violent. I would like you to give me an example using that word in order for me to understand it better. Thank you.

This word is used a lot in criminal law proceedings. It´s common for a judge to decide the penalty for a criminal based on how much, if any, remorse (expressing sorrow) he has, ie: "I sentence you to 50 years in prison, the maximun allowed by law, as you have shown no remorse for your actions."

E.g: I'll forgive you for asking this question before googling an example if you show some remorse for your wrongdoing.

Yep, almost the same, but not quite. :) I should say it's just a tad stronger than regret. And besides, regret can be a verb too, and it means "to feel remorse or regret". :P - inkubzz, Aug 23, 2012
