A E I O U are the vowel letters in the alphabet with the consonants. Á É Í Ó Ú are the same letters with tildes (accent marks).

When we talk about the correct spelling of a word, if it contains a vowel letter that is incorrect because it is missing a tilde - or if the letter has been given a tilde when it should not have one - we say it is the wrong letter.

But the alphabet contains A E I O U and not Á É Í Ó Ú.

In Spanish, written accent marks tell us how to pronounce a word. Here's a whole lesson on that topic.
