Hello everyone. I think phrasal verbs are some of the most difficult to many English learners because most of them do not have a literal translation. So I have decided to learn one or two phrasal verbs every day.

I know you can help me with that, but you also need to learn Spanish, so please write the sentence in English using the PV then try it in Spanish. Then I will correct your sentence (the Spanish sentence, of course); we will help each other out.

If you´re not sure about how to translate your sentence, just explain (in English) what your Pv means and I will help with your translation.

Today let's write sentences using the phrasal verb:

"Cut off"

1.-Definition(cut sth off):to remove a part of something to make it smaller or shorter, using a sharp tool such as a knife.

Remember to cut off the fat before you fry the steak.

2.-Definition(cut sth off): to stop providing something such as electricity, supplies, etc.

If this bill is not paid within five days, your gas supply will be cut off.

The aim was to cut off the enemy's escape route/supplies.

3.-Definition(cut sb off, usually passive): to stop people from continuing a telephone conversation by breaking the telephone connection.

We were cut off before she could give me directions.

4.-Definition(cut sb off): If someone serving drinks in a bar cuts you off, they stop serving you alcoholic drinks because they think you have drunk too many.

I'm glad the bartender cut Tommy off - he's already had too much to drink.

5.-Definition(cut sb/sth off): to cause a person or place to become separate, or cause someone to be or feel alone.

When his wife died, he cut himself off from other people.

Many villages have been cut off by the heavy snow.

He cut his son off without a penny. (to cut off = to disinherit somebody = to refuse to let somebody receive any of your property after you die)

Desheredó a su hijo sin dejarle un centavo. (to cut off = to disinherit = negarse a alguien recibir cualquier de su propiedad después de morir)
