The expression "Care for"
Is the expression "care for" used to express affection only in a romantic way or could it also be used to express feelings for a friend, brother, stepmother ?
Could I say "I care for my cousin" meaning I love him but as a relative, not as in a romantic relationship ? I don't want to misuse this expression.
Thanks.
Podria traducirse " I care for somebody" como le tengo carino a alguien?

Yes, the term "to care for someone" is used to imply strong friendship or family love. It can imply the start of a romance, but is less than love.
When i think of the term ''To care for'' somebody... it has more to due with unromantic love. If you are talking about how much you care for your wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend, it would have more to do with your friendship. It means you are really good friends! Nothing to do with romance.
·I really care for my brother and sister. I don´t want them to leave.
·Les tengo mucho cariño a mi hermano y mi hermana. No quiero que se vayan.
Yes Noetol and Carson have summed it up well. To care for can also mean to look after:
Who will care for your dog whilst you're on holiday?
Is there anybody to care for Granny now?
This usage is synonomous with ' to take care of. '
