no recuerdo vs no me acuerdo

no recuerdo vs no me acuerdo

I've been using Pimsleur which teaches "I don't remember" to be "no me acuerdo", but I have seen also the translation "no recuerdo". Which is preferable? I don't really understand the first translation, is "acuerdo" not "agreement"?

Hey, Daniel, welcome to the Q&A forum.

"no me acuerdo", but I have seen also the translation "no recuerdo". Which is preferable?

I usually hear "no me acuerdo" more often.

I... is "acuerdo" not "agreement"?

Yes, but with a pronoun--

  • Estoy de acuerdo = I agree

  • ¿De acuerdo? = Do you agree?

  • Estamos de acuerdo = We are in agreement

DE is not a pronoun. DE is a preposition. I'm a professional teacher and I caught this mistake. - sassy72, Oct 19, 2016

I've read that (no) recuerdo and (no) me acuerdo are interchangeable. So use either one that you prefer.

Yes, "Acuerdo" means "Agreement" too, but the meaning depends of the situation. Here you use the word in a context in wich you remember something, and either way, you can use both sentences.
