As you already know, English has 7 tenses and Spanish has 13.

Today we will examine the preterite and imperfect Spanish tenses.

I will select the verb that we will use.

I will tell you its verb meaning…in general.

I will also give you the verbs conjugations.

You will need to select one of the conjugations and use it in a sentence.

Example : entender, entendí- Lo entendí por el momento. I understood it for the moment.

Please answer in Spanish and English. Please use ‘clip art” if you have it.

And please…enjoy yourself.

Hoy examinaremos los tiempos pretérito e imperfecto de español.

Seleccionaré el verbo que utilizaremos.

Les diré la significación del verbo…por lo general.

También les daré las conjugaciones del verbo.

Tendrán que seleccionar una de las conjugaciones y utilizarla en una frase.

Por ejemplo : entender – I understood it for the moment. Lo entendí por el momento.

Por favor conteste en español y en inglés. Por favor use ‘el arte de clip” si usted lo tiene. Y por favor … ¡ diviértanse!

De repente entendí lo que significaba el triangulo señalizador.

Suddenly I understood what the warning sign meant.

Ya que habló con fuerte acento castellano, no la entendí nada.

Since she spoke with a strong Spanish accent, I didn't understand her one bit.

Nunca entendía por qué a muchas personas les encantan estudiar los idiomas extranjeros...hasta que empecé a estudiar español. Ahora, no puedo imaginar vivir mi vida sin aprender un idioma.

I never understood why many people love to study foreign languages...until I started to study Spanish. Now, I can't imagine living my life without studying a language.

El otro dia yo halaba con una muchacha de mexico y le entendí lo que decía ella.

The other day I was talking with girl from Mexico and I understood what she was saying.

Durante mi viaje todos me entendían cuando yo halaba su idioma.

During my trip, everyone understood me when I was speaking their language.

2nd attempt:

El otro día, dudo que "Danny" (el caballo) entienda cualquiera de mis indicaciones verbales o de las piernas!

The other day, I doubt that "Danny" (horse) understood any of my verbal or leg cues!

edited....

1.

Even though you are presently telling the story, you are decribing a past doubt that you experienced….you are presently talking about a doubt that you were having/had in the past…. thus imperfect subjunctive. …entendiera.

El otro día (time specific…calls for a preterite), yo dudé que “Danny” (el caballo) entendiera cualquiera de mis indicaciones verbales o las de las piernas. Very good job though ?

2. Or…I doubt that “Danny” (the horse) understood…. (the other day) This is presently (currently) discribing a past doubt. Whether it continues or not is irrelavent.

Hablando del otro día, dudo que Danny (el caballo) entendiera cualquiera de mis indicaciones verbales o las de las piernas.

Speaking of the other day, I doubt that Danny (the horse) understood any of my verbal indications or those of the legs.

Really? I thought possibly indicated some uncertainty and the subjunctive was needed? Oh, I see, I didn't read the instructions. You've moved past present to the past! Okay, I'll try 'er again! - bandit51jd, Aug 14, 2012

Todo se volvió un borroso y no no entendía completamente lo que ella quería decir.

Everything became a blur I did not quite understand what she meant.
