As you already know, English has 7 tenses and Spanish has 13.

Today we will examine the preterit and imperfect Spanish tenses.

I will select the verb that we will use.

I will tell you its verb meaning…in general. I will also give you the verbs conjugations.

You will need to select one of the conjugations and use it in a sentence.

Example : hacer- What did you do yesterday? ¿Qué hiciste ayer?

Please answer in Spanish and English. Please use ‘clip art” if you have it.

And please…enjoy yourself.

Como ya lo sabes, el inglés tiene 7 tiempos y español tiene 13.

Hoy examinaremos los tiempos pretérito e imperfecto de español.

Seleccionaré el verbo que utilizaremos.

Les diré la significación del verbo…por lo general. También les daré las conjugaciones del verbo.

Tendrán que seleccionar una de las conjugaciones y utilizarla en una frase.

Por ejemplo : hacer - ¿ Qué hiciste ayer? What did you do yesterday?

Por favor conteste en español y en inglés. Por favor use ‘el arte de clip” si usted lo tiene. Y por favor … ¡ diviértanse!

El verbo será ; “hacer” – to make, to do The verb will be ; “hacer” – to make, to do

El preterito –

hice, hiciste, hizo, hicimos, hicieron

El imperfecto –

hacía, hacías, hacía, hacíamos, hacían

Choose one and use it in a sentence. Escojan una y utilícenla en una fraze.

Hacer - to make, to do

Very nice Margherit. I might have said...Yo hacía mi primero salto de la montaña cuando me herí la pierna. (herirse). But, you did a very nice job. Thanks for trying and learning at SpanishDict.com :) - viejito, Aug 9, 2012

Cuando hacía mucho frío el invierno pasado, mi marido hizo un fuego en la chimenea. When it was very cold last winter, my husband made a fire in the fireplace.

Hola viejito, I am a beginner so please bear with me. My question is about the explanation. Near the bottom of the directions, you have:

El imperativo –

hacía, hacías, hacía, hacíamos, hacían

Are these not the 'imperfecto' tense?

I wanted to try the game, but was a little confused, and being a beginner, it does not take much to confuse me grin

I hope you are going to say that I am correct, as that will mean I have learned a little bit today. Gracias amigo!

De niño, nunca hacía los papales importantes en las obras de la comunidad, y siempre lo he lamento.

As a child, I never played the important roles in the community plays, and I have always regretted it.

Por favor viejito,¿ por qué 'yo'? When should I use or not use a personal pronoun? I often make this mistake. Gracias por su ayuda.

It's not really necessary in this sentence as long as everyone knows who 'hacía' applies to. I was just being demonstrative...i.e. more emphatic. Making sure that there wasn't any ambiguity. However, it can be over used and become a crutch : - viejito, Aug 9, 2012
It is far less used with conjugated verbs whose spelling already makes the subject known. It is however more frequently used with conjugations whose subjects can be suspect. - viejito, Aug 9, 2012
