Today write sentences with "get off"

Question

Hello everyone. I think phrasal verbs are some of the most difficult to many English learners because most of them do not have a literal translation. So I have decided to learn one or two phrasal verbs every day.

I know you can help me with that, but you also need to learn Spanish, so please write the sentence in English using the PV then try it in Spanish. Then I will correct your sentence (the Spanish sentence, of course); we will help each other out.

Phrasal Verb: Get off

Meaning: Manage to fire a gun

Example: She got off a few shots before she was arrested.

My attempt:

Cuando un policía de novato quitó unos tiros al campo de tiro, él faltó el objetivo. Más tarde, con más práctica, su habilidad y confianza aumentará.

When a rookie police officer got off a few shots at the firing range, he missed the target. Later, with more practice, his skill and confidence will increase.

When I was little I would use 'get off with' and 'snog' to mean kiss.
