'Como' to mean however?

conjunctive phrase 1. whichever way, however (de cualquier modo que) como quiera que sea -> whatever the case may be

In the dictionary on this site, it states that 'como' can be used as a conjunction to mean 'however'. What perplexes me, is when to use como instead of sin embargo. Thanks for any replies in advance!

Use "como" when expressing in what way or manner something is/was done. Use "sin embargo" when expressing nevertheless, yet, still, though, yet.
