Is it correct to say uno lapiz when you want to say one pencil instead of a pencil?

Would you say uno mesa for one table?

un lápiz means both one pencil as well as a pencil. There is really no difference in the meaning. If I ask for one pencil or simply a pencil.

For masculine objects, you woul use "un", as in "un lápiz". Feminine objects use "una", as in "una mesa".

Welcome to the forum, Osomokey.

Both answers are correct--

When you have "uno" directly before a masculine noun you change it to "un" --

  • Un lapiz

  • Un libro

  • Un hombre

For feminine words the "una" stays the same--

  • Una casa

  • Una mujer

  • Una camisa
