Today write sentences with "fall apart"

Hello everyone. I think phrasal verbs are some of the most difficult to many English learners because most of them do not have a literal translation. So I have decided to learn one or two phrasal verbs every day.

I know you can help me with that, but you also need to learn Spanish, so please write the sentence in English using the PV then try it in Spanish. Then I will correct your sentence (the Spanish sentence, of course); we will help each other out.

If you´re not sure about how to translate your sentence, just explain (in English) what your Pv means and I will help with your translation.

Today let's write sentences using the phrasal verb:

"Fall apart"

ups sorry Katy I - great minds aye ;) Still at least we used different translations :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 25, 2012
Hi Katy, good try. Your Spanish version means: he couldn´t do anything after his...so the translation should be: Él se desmoronó después de la muerte de su esposa. - luisssito, Jul 25, 2012
Gracias, Luis. - katydew, Jul 30, 2012

If you buy cheap trainers, they'll fall apart after a few months.

Si compras zapatillas de deporte baratas, se te estropearán en un par de meses.

Los momentos dificíles de la vida pueden rompernos en mil pedazos si no tenemos apoyo.

Life's difficult moments can make us fall apart if we don't have a support system.

When you make sushi, if you don't squeeze or press the rice correctly it can fall apart.

Cuando se hace sushi si no se aprieta o presiona correctamente el arroz puede desboronarse.

(or would desmigajar be better?)

Well, it could work, but your original version sounds ok. - luisssito, Jul 25, 2012
Also *desmoronarse* is very common. About desmigajarse hmm maybe it could be used when talking about cookies or bread, but personally I haven't heard it. :D - Juliss, Jul 25, 2012

A causa de su textura dura y rígida, crocante de maní no se desmorona/se quiebra fácilmente.

Because of its hard and stiff texture, peanut brittle does not fall apart easily.

Bandit I think desmorarse is more a figurative kind of 'falling to pieces' (although I believe it works for walls too, lol) - how about using salir en pedazos? - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 25, 2012
or desintegrar? But do wait and see what Luis says as I could have it wrong :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 25, 2012
it shatters = se hace añicos - ian-hill, Jul 25, 2012
This is delicious!! You can also say " el crocante de maní no se quiebra facilmente". - Juliss, Jul 25, 2012
Thanks everyone. Well, in this sentence "desmoronar" is good, because it means to fall into pieces (it can be used for things or when people get really sad after something terrible happens). - luisssito, Jul 25, 2012
Let`s see desmoronar vs quebrar, desmoronar( to fall into pieces, but the pieces are really small); quebrar(to fall into pieces or maybe to break, anyway it is used when the pieces are quite big and the thing that is being broken is stiff - luisssito, Jul 25, 2012
Thanks luisssito. After Skyping with you it appears that both verbs can be used. - bandit51jd, Jul 26, 2012
You´re welcome, and thank you too for your help, skype is very useful to clear doubts:):):) - luisssito, Jul 26, 2012

Every time that someone says something to her, she falls apart.

Cada vez que alguien dice algo, ella se derrumba.
