Jumping into or being thrown into water

Question

I just noticed on word of the day that it isn't always easy to express in Spanish 'jumping into water' be it the sea or a pool etc.

Although you can use saltar al agua there are many more options.

I've always like this one--

To go for a dip in the pool = darse una zambullida en la piscina

Have to wonder if "skinny dip" is "una zambullida desnuda?"

Thanks for posting. I think I used that phrase because of something I found on an old thread. I had remembered that way back when I had my first Spanish lessons that the instructor said jumping into water used the 'accidental' form of the verb since it's not seen as natural to jump in water or climb a tree, etc., but especially with clothes on.

I asked my tutor today and she said that in the case of jumping into the pool, you can use saltar a la piscina (salté a la piscina)... but if you are just getting in the pool, I should use meterse (me metí...). - katydew, Jul 19, 2012
