I guess my first question is simple, do you understand what you are reading? 40%, 50%, 90%? Reading with fluency is great but comprehending will lead you to understanding. I don't know your level due to the fact that you haven't filled that out yet and mean no disrespect. Ask the people that are speaking to slow down and let them know you are a new learner. smile Good luck and welcome to the forum!!

Just keep honing your listening abbilites:

If you're gonna watch a Spanish-speaking movie, turn on the Spanish subtitles.

Ask people to slow down a bit, after a while you'll find it easier to follow what they're saying, even if they start speaking faster.

Find an accent that's more difficult for you to understand, then find material with that particular accent if you can and practice with it, once that one's clear, the others will also be clearer

This is very true. If you listen to Andalusian Spanish, then Puero Rican will sound a lot easier.. - annierats, Jul 18, 2012
