A-Z Game: Say what?!

A-Z Game: Say what?!

As we know, context is everything in languages.

If someone asks, "What does bat mean in English?" and you'll give them several definitions and say it depends on which type of "bat" they are looking for!

In this G A M E

  • Follow in alphabetical order, por favor.

  • Please click "Newest" to see which letter is next.

  • Write a word (Spanish or English noun, verb, adjective) that has two separate, distinct meanings. (not "ice" and "ice cube" for example)

  • Write at least one sentence in Spanish and English using the word in context.

  • Add a picture if you like.

  • Have fun!

I'll start with ...

Alto

Mi esposo es muy alto. (My husband is very tall)

El policía gritó, "¡Alto!" (The cop yelled "Stop!")

Mariana, you might want to remind folks to click 'Newest" before posting. From the pictures, this could fill a page fast. I like the game. It's a challenge! - katydew, Jul 15, 2012

Sean. I think because it's an A-Z game, you have to have a word with 'D'. This one will be great for the letter 'M". - katydew, Jul 15, 2012
Oh, sorry about that. - RichSean1725, Jul 15, 2012
I changed it and tried to follow the directions, thanks katydew! - RichSean1725, Jul 15, 2012
Glad you can think one up so fast. This one is a mind churner for me. - katydew, Jul 16, 2012

Well it is in England - don't know what you get up to in the US of A :) - ian-hill, Jul 17, 2012
Thanks, amigo! Here in the good U.S of A. it's "scarf down" = To eat or drink voraciously; devour. - --Mariana--, Jul 17, 2012
Here "Scoff" is To mock at or treat with derision. - --Mariana--, Jul 17, 2012
Here too - just to confuse everyone :) - ian-hill, Jul 17, 2012
I'm sure there are those who scoff at those who scarf down their scarves as well. - katydew, Jul 17, 2012
