is puede the tu form in spanish or they ellos? Or is it the yo form? When you ask "se puede?" It means may I come in? Should it not be se puedo?

"Se puede" is a passive voice construction meaning "one can."

Fo example:

¿Se puede andar por este parque?

Can one walk through this park?

Puede is the third person singular of Poder, and to say "Se puedo" is incorrect. This is because the passive se is used when the subject is unknown or unimportant. If you said "Se puedo," now it is very obvious who the subject is-It is "I".

So to say "May I come in" can be:

"Puedo entrar?" Can I come in?

"Se puede entrar?" Can one come in? or more roughly Are you letting people in?

¿Se puede entrar? also has the effect of saying, "can I come in?". You also cannot say "se puedo" as it is incorrect. - Eddy, Jul 13, 2012
