Adjectives -ser and estar

Tomorrow Is My Spanish Test On Adjectives And I am really confused. If Anyone can clear my doubts about the dissimilarities between 'ser' and 'estar' with suitable examples so that i understand well. Also, where are 'ser' and 'estar' particularly used? In the context of emotions, how to differentiate between them?

I am an indian and so is a beginner in learning spanish. Here is what the main problem is-

There's an excercise in my book which says- Completa la termionacion de los siguientes adjetivos y despues clasificalos-

orgull - - - envidi - - - etc. The problem is that since spanish is not my main language so my vocabulary is much weak . This means that i don't know what i should add at the end of 'orgull' since i don't know the whole word. Although the original word is orgulloso and we have to add 'oso' at the end but if some new, unfamiliar word comes in my exam, then what is the trick to identify the ending of the word to make it into a proper word? How does one gets to know that he has to add 'oso' in the end of 'orgull' without knowing the word before?

I would appreciate if you provide your answer in english more then spanish.

With due respect and regards. Sid.

Generally ser for permanent qualities (honest) and estar for qualities that change (like happy).

If someone is honest, they have been that way for awhile or someone would not have characterized them as honest so it uses 'ser'.

But being happy, sad, tired, etc. are passing qualities and can change with bad news or good news so they generally use 'estar'.

I think Paralee's little jingle to remember estar is something like:

How you feel and where you are, that is when you use estar.

Thanks for this! Worth it! But it could be easily argued that honesty is a temporary quality since one isn't honest all the time! - sid99, Sep 20, 2012
